Guide to Thailand’s Full Moon Party, Koh Samui and More

Koh Samui

  • Flights are super cheap. I got my flight one way from Bangkok to Koh Samui for $157 one way on Expedia.
  • Big Buddha- we took a taxi and walked around many beautiful sculptures close by each other.

  • Laem Sor Pagoda aka the mummified munk very close to Na Muang Waterfall. Our taxi driver actually offered to take us here on the way home from there.

  • My favorite place to eat at was the Jungle Club. At the top of the mountain, they charged 100 Baht each way to take our group up and back down the mountain. The JC overlooked all of Koh Samui. The restaurant had a wide variety of options including salads, pizzas and other Thai foods. Find out more information on their website here.

  • Na Muang waterfall

Fish spa

I found many massages and spas along the beach. I found a fish spa in Fisherman’s Village. It cost only $9 USD for 10 minute fish spa and 30 minute foot massage. I would highly recommend, but it tickles!

Where We Stayed

We decided to stay in Koh Samui for five days and take day trips to all of the islands below rather than packing up all of our stuff and keep moving. Here is a link to our Airbnb. We stayed in the jungle with a private pool! It was about $80 per person with 7 people for 5 nights. The only downer was that it was always a process to get a cab usually took 10 minutes. We were too scared to ride the motor scooters to rent a car because of how crazy people drive here.

Koh Pha Ngan

Koh Pha Ngan most famously known for the Full Moon Party hosted once a month when there is a full moon. It really is a party days leading up to to it.

How to Get There

You can’t fly into Koh Pha Ngan so you must take a ferry from Koh Samui. There are a few different docks you can depart from. We chose Mr Tu’s again because they picked us up from our Airbnb and dropped us off after which was nice for about $35 USD total. Without cab options one way ferry’s were about $7 USD.

What to Wear

You can buy everything there or in Koh Samui for less than $15 USD. Everyone wears neon and paint all over their body which you can find anywhere. Once you get there, there it was 100 Baht to enter. There is plenty of food and alcohol buckets for cheap. We walked the whole beach where included many clubs, fire jump ropes, and tourists from all of the world.

If I could Do It Again…

I would stay on the island. We ended up taking a ferry to Koh Samui. It was just a lot of steps I felt like we were all worried about making the ferry back to Koh Samui.

Koh Tao

Unfortunately, we didn’t get off the boat to this island because it is private and you must stay there, but we did snorkel around it.

Koh Nang Yuan

Last, but not least, we went to this island on part of a tour from Koh Samui for $49 USD. There are many tour places all along the city of Chaweng. You can negotiate with them! I would recommend Mr. Tu’s day tour. They picked us up from our hotel around 7:45am. They provided a light breakfast which included coffee, bananas and mini croissants. It was about a 1.5 hour ride from Koh Samui to Koh Nang Yuan where they gave us a few hours to do whatever we want: hike to the view point (which I recommend going to first because the line behind us to get pictures was insane), snorkel, lay on the beach and eat the lunch buffet. From there, they took us to Koh Tao to snorkel for about a hour then return another 1.5 boat ride which is pretty rough. I would recommend taking some motion sickness medicine if you get sea sick! We then returned to the station and they dropped us back off at our hotel around 5pm.View from “View Point”

That’s all for the east side of the Thailand islands, now off to our ferry and bus ride to Phuket, Phi Phi islands and Krabi. More soon! We took the shortest one ~6 hours for only $24 (with tax) USD!

Charlotte

What I Did

Work work work work work. Literally. I was in Charlotte for almost 3 weeks so I had time to explore.

Hike

Thanks for the recommendation from my friend Taylor. Crowder’s mountain was an awesome hike! The only issue was I had to wait about 10 minutes for parking. There was a place down the street you could pay $5 to park and walk. Here is the link to the website with the hours and things to do at Crowder’s National Park.

Banana Suit Bar Crawl

The best $20 I’ve ever spent (including the suit). This was the 5th annual crawl. We got tickets here. If you are in Charlotte during February you have to do this bar crawl!

Shopping

My work mom Sandy took me to Birkdale Village. It was a really cute outdoor mall in Huntersville. We ate at Red Rocks which was a super nice restaurant. I highly recommend we had the best server named Lucky!

Miami

Where We Stayed

Hilton Miami Downtown. Only 3 miles from Miami beach. My friend Gabi works for Hilton so she gets the team member rate. That’s one way to travel on a budget (I miss working in hotels for this reason).

Places We Ate

You have to eat Cuban food while in Miami We ate at David’s Cafe Cafecito. I can’t say I’ve honestly ever had Cuban food,  but it was amazing. Try a cortadito which is cuban coffee. This place was super affordable plus free parking!

Bodega in South Beach. This is a cute taco truck with a hidden bar. The drinks were pretty pricey, but I loved the vibe.

Make a reservation at Komodo for a fancier dinner. We got the Lobster Dynamite to start and sushi for dinner. The service was phenomenal! They really made us feel special. This is the new hot spot. The restaurant was still packed at 11pm on a Thursday. Celebrities go here including Kim & Kanye. We even saw Michael Bay aka the director of Transformers!

Go to happy hour at  Sugar in Brickell. We went right at 4pm when they opened and got an awesome table. It’s a rooftop bar on the 40th floor of a hotel that overlooks Miami. Although, they kicked us out after two hours since there was a long wait so that part kind of sucked. Other than that the sushi was good.

Overall, there’s a ton of great shopping, nightlife and beaches in Miami. I was only here for a few days so we spent most of our time at the hotel pool and dining out.

Road Trip to Mexico

Road trip to Mexico…sounds crazy right? It actually was an easy drive from Phoenix. About 4 hours to be exact. The border is closed from midnight to 6am. I would recommend driving during the day. It’s safer anyways.

Where we stayed?

We rented a villa for 11 people. It came out to $167 USD per person for three nights. This is for sure less than I would spend out at the bars for New Years 😉

Check out the website here. Las Palmas was easy to find and close to the beach. I would recommend it because it’s safe (all guests are required to wear wristbands).

Things to do in Rocky Point

Check out the website here for more detailed information here from whale watching to ATVing to night life.

We walked down the street from our resort and got two quads for $100 per hour. We had 6 people so only $16 per person. So cheap! There’s also a bar right by called Banditos that we watched the Fiesta Bowl and spent New Years Eve at.

If you an looking for an affordable road trip this is it! I’ll definitely go back for a long weekend at “Arizona’s beach”. It’s super Americanized.

How I Got Tickets To The Ellen Show

How did I get lucky enough to go to Ellen’s show not once, but twice? Stalk. her. website. Check here every damn day. It usually says fully booked, but click next month. Then check tomorrow. No joke I’ve been stalking her website since college and I scored tickets twice. It took a few years, but when you see “tickets available”it’s your chance. I’ve only ever gotten 3 tickets so I recommend requesting a low number not 10.

We saw P-Diddy, John Turturro, Stevie Nicks and LL Cool J. We sat front row right next to the DJ so we got on air a few times! We won Diddy’s new cologne and an $150 Visa gift card! The Thursday showing was amazing because we saw Friday’s show and part of Monday’s.

We also went to the Santa Monica pier, did the Hollywood hike and went to a USC game.

How to Plan a Bachelorette Party in Nashville

Who said planning a bachelorette party for 17 girls was easy?! Here are 6 tips to keep the party going for the bride to be.

IMG_3279Go Big or Go Home

Literally. One thing I loved about the bride is she invited more than just the bridal party.  She included all of our best friends from high school. #nashvillepartyof17 #tayslastrodeo

Bachelorette Pad

Staying in a hotel with this many girls/hotel rooms can be hectic. This is why I highly recommend airbnb. This keeps a large group of gals in one place (for the most part). We can all pregame the bars together and be in one place. We stayed about 5-10 minutes from downtown in East Nashville. Logan made survival kits for all the girls including some essentials and our pink tanks! Thanks to Tay’s college friends for all the cute decorations too!

Resos on Resos

On a holiday weekend who wants to wait around in lines all weekend? Not me. Especially when the party planner herself gets hangry waiting for food. Plan ahead. I used Yelp and the Thrillist to check local reviews on restaurants and bars.We ate at Biscuit Love and Saint Anejo for brunch. Highly recommend. And of course had some bbq at Edley’s and Jacks.

Pedal Wagon

Why would you not do this? Nuff said.

Lingerie Shower

Every bride deserves some new sexy lingerie before her honeymoon. We created a Facebook message without the bride to throw ideas out there on what everyone wanted to get her. We then had a little surprise guest show up to get the party started 😉

VIP Open Bar

We did the VIP open bar from 8-11pm at Honky Tonk Central. How much? $95 per girl including tip, unlimited appetizers, and any drink for 3 hours on a private balcony. At 11pm we were able to go down and mingle with the bar, but its the perfect pregame and a great way to skip the long lines on a holiday weekend.
